Sprint and Anaerobic Power with the Soccer-Specific ACTN3 Gene: A Distintive Example
(Universidad de la Frontera, 2024) Söyler, Mehmet; Zileli, Raif; Özkamçı, Hüseyin; Diker, Gürkan; Sever, Mehmet Onur; Ön, Sadi; Yılmaz, Özlem Özge
The aim of this study is twofold: (1) to identify differences in certain anaerobic parameters (10m sprint, 30m sprint, anaerobic power, and Illinois agility tests) between professional and amateur soccer players, and (2) to determine whether there is a difference in the ACTN3 gene polymorphism between professional and amateur soccer players. Ultimately, the goal is to reveal which parameters contribute to the differentiation in these two aspects. A total of 133 volunteer soccer players, including 71 professionals and 62 amateurs, participated in the research. DNA extraction from buccal epithelial cells was performed using a commercial kit to determine the genetic background of the athletes, and Real-Time PCR was conducted for genotyping. Statistical analysis of the findings obtained from the test results was performed using the SPSS 23 (SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, USA) package program. The homogeneity of variance of the data was assessed using the Levene Test, and normal distribution analyses were conducted using the Shapiro-Wilk Test. Chi-square and Mann-Whitney U tests were employed for parameter analysis. The significance level was set at p<0.05. Evaluation of the data in our study revealed no statistically significant difference in ACTN3 rs1815739 gene polymorphism between the groups (p>0.05). However, there is a statistically significant difference in anaerobic parameters (10m sprint, 30m sprint, and anaerobic power) except for the Illinois test (p<0.05). In conclusion, our study found that gene polymorphism is not a differentiating factor between professional and amateur soccer players, but speed (10m and 30m) and anaerobic power parameters are differentiating factors. © 2024, Universidad de la Frontera. An experimental and computational studies, evaluating the in vitro antidiabetic and antioxidant activity, in silico prediction ADMET properties of 5-chloro-1H-benzimidazole and its newly synthesized silver(I) complex
(John Wiley and Sons Ltd, 2024) Küçük, Ceyhun; Çelik, Sibel; Yurdakul, Şenay; Çöteli, Ebru
In this research, a new Ag(I) complex, namely, [Ag(5-chloro-1H-benzimidazole)2(NO3)], has been synthesized using the benzimidazole-based ligand 5-chloro-1H-benzimidazole (5ClBZ). Ag(I) complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, UV-Vis, FT-IR, and 1H NMR spectroscopy, and DFT analysis was used. The free ligand and its Ag(I) complexes were tried for their biochemical properties, including antioxidant and antidiabetic properties. To study the molecular structures of the title compounds, in silico ADME/Tox research was performed on the newly made complex and free ligand. The empirical guidelines relating to ADME were utilized to conduct molecular docking simulations and in-depth drug-likeness profiling. This was carried out to validate the conclusions and identify exact binding interactions. Based on the study's findings, it has been determined that these new compounds have significant potential as powerful therapeutic agents for controlling antioxidant and antidiabetic activities.

Validity and Reliability of the Turkish Version of the Modified COVID-19 Yorkshire Rehabilitation Scale
(Kare Publishing, 2024) Doğan, Murat; Çelik, Nazlı; Konar, Naime Meriç
Objectives: Post-COVID syndrome (PCS) is defined as persistent or emerging symptoms after infection with the virus. The COVID-19 Yorkshire Rehabilitation Scale was developed to identify and measure the severity of PCS symptoms and was later modified. This study aimed to evaluate the validity and reliability of the modified COVID-19 Yorkshire Rehabilitation Scale. Methods: Language validity, content validity, exploratory factor analysis, and confirmatory factor analysis were performed for construct validity of the scale. Guttman split-half coefficients obtained by the split-half method, Cronbach alpha values, and intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC) examined the reliability of the fit. Results: The study included 202 patients with a mean age of 57.6±13.4 years. Construct validity results showed that factorial findings demonstrated the factorable structure (Bartlett’s test of sphericity (χ2=1554.8; p<0.001) and good model fit (NFI=0.88, GFI=0.85, root mean square error of approximation=0.10, root mean square residual=0.03) for the present data. For criterion validity, correlation coefficients were found to range from −0.22 to 0.57 (p<0.05, for all), indicating moderate relationships between sub-dimensions. In addition, a high level of reliability was found for the adaptation, as suggested by Guttman’s split-half coefficients (0.90, 0.83, and 0.88 for symptom severity, functional ability, and the full scale, respectively), Cronbach’s alpha (0.89, 0.83, 0.92), and ICC coefficients (0.88, 0.81, 0.90). Conclusion: The Turkish version of C19-YRSm has 2 sub-dimensions such as symptom severity and functional ability and is a valid and reliable instrument for measuring patient assessment and monitoring in PCS in Turks.

The Effects of Public Investments and Fiscal Incentives in Free Port Cities on Economic Growth Dynamics at Local Level in Türkiye
(Sosyoekonomi Society, 2024) Abukan, Deniz; Akın, Cem; Doğan, Esra
In the study, from 2006 to 2019, in 11 cities with free zones and seaports in Türkiye, public investments and fiscal incentives were examined as economic growth dynamics at the local level. This is not only in a relational context; It is also put forward by considering the supportive and complementary context of investment expenditures to investments in the incentive system. A comparative empirical analysis is applied for 11 free port cities (Adana, Antalya, Bursa, İzmir, İstanbul, Kocaeli, Mersin, Rize, Samsun, Tekirdağ, Trabzon). Because port cities are at the centre of market relations (as functioning, processing, and mechanism) in the historical process, cities with free zones and seaports were specially selected for the study. Thus, in the empirical analysis applied through COPRAS, one of the multi-criteria decision-making methods, the current situation regarding the relationship between public investments and financial incentives and economic growth at the local level is determined in 11 free port cities. As a result of the findings, it was determined that while free port cities in Türkiye are expected to have a high growth potential, this is generally not valid at the local level. © 2024, Sosyoekonomi Society. Is there a Relationship between Nursing Students' Perceptions of Dishonesty and Attitudes Towards Medical Errors?
(Churchill Livingstone, 2024) Büyüksoy, Gizem Deniz; Özdil, Kamuran; Çatıker, Aslıhan
Background: Understanding nursing students' perceptions of dishonesty and their attitudes towards medical errors is crucial for nurse educators. Objectives: This study aimed to examine the relationship between nursing students' perceptions of dishonesty and their attitudes towards medical errors. Design: This study is descriptive and correlational research. The sample size consisted of 230 nursing students in a Department of Nursing at Kırşehir Ahi Evran University Faculty of Health Sciences in Turkey during the 2022–2023 academic year. The data was collected between May 15–31, 2023. Results: A statistically significant correlation was observed between the total score of the Nursing Student Perceptions of Dishonesty Scale, and the Medical Errors Attitude Scale (p < 0.05). There was a positive and weak correlation between the MEAS scale score and the cheating (r = 0.284, p < 0.05), sabotage (r = 0.275, p < 0.05), perjury (r = 0.308, p < 0.05), non-compliance (r = 0.309, p < 0.05), and stealing (r = 0.359, p < 0.05) sub dimension score, and a positive and very weak correlation between the MEAS score and the sub dimension of not my problem score (r = 0.182, p < 0.05). The perceptions of dishonesty explain 15 % of the attitude towards medical errors (F = 4.563, p < 0.001). Conclusions: In this study, a significant relationship was observed between nursing students' perceptions of dishonesty and their attitudes towards medical errors. Specifically, as the perception of dishonesty increased, there was a positive change in attitudes towards medical errors. These results offer nurse educators valuable insights into the impact of academic dishonesty on the development of medical error attitudes among student nurses throughout their nursing education and beyond.
