Investigation of Agriculture for Geography: Walnut Production Activities in Kaman District (Kirsehir)

Abstract

Walnuts have been used widely and contain nutritive compounds with beneficial effects on human health. Walnut has 50% fruit yield and it is proved that the kernel is inevitable for a healthy diet because of the nutritional components and high energy level. These effects are caused by the minerals, vitamins, antioxidants and unsaturated fatty acids in its composition. Kaman according to its conditions, continental climate is prevailing in the region. The region is very suitable with its climate and fertile soils, especially for the production of fruits. Walnut is quite important to the economic life of the local people. Therefore walnut growing is gradually gaining importance. In the light of the research results, the measures towards the improvements of walnut production both in the research region and in Turkey as a whole were discussed and some suggestions were made.
