An analysis of relation between sleep quality and academic success [Uyku kali·tesi·ve akademi·k başari arasindaki· i·li·şki·ni·n i·ncelenmesi·]
Abstract
This diagnostic study has been conducted to analyze the 'Sleep Quality and Academic Success' of the students of the Nursing School at Cumhuriyet University in Turkey. The population of the study includes totally 330 students of Nursing School in 2006-2007 academic year. In collecting the data about the students, Descriptive Identity Form and Pittsburg Sleep Quality Index have been used. Percentage Test, Chi-Square Test and Variance-Analysis Test have been used to evaluate the data statistically. In this study, 70.8 % of the students have been found without sleep quality, and it has been found that those with sleep quality have more academic success. In accordance with the analyzed data, some suggestions have been improved to provide the students primarily with educational knowledge about the basic principles of having restful sleeps. These suggestions also provide for the students' supervising lecturers active evaluation of sleep patterns of the students, coping with sleep disorders and planning.
