Özet

The purpose of this research is the 6th grade Social Studies course "People, Places and Environments" learning area 6.3.1 and 6.3.2 within the scope of the 2018 Social Studies Curriculum (SBDÖP) the aim of this study is to determine how the game teaching method is used in teaching 11 geography concepts, which are among the learning outcomes and where students experience misconceptions. Weak experimental desing method was used as the method in this research. The study group of the research consists of 15 students studying in the 6/B class of a secondary school in Göle district of Ardahan province in the 2023-2024 academic year. Developed by the researcher as a data collection tool within the scope of the research, academic achievement test, games and structured interview form were applied. In addition, student diaries were used to determine the students' opinions on the game teaching process, and the researcher's diary was used to record the researcher's opinions and observations about the process. The research lasted 8 weeks. While the analysis of the quantitative data collected within the scope of the research was carried out by SPSS 25.0, the qualitative data were analyzed by the content analysis method. Based on the findings obtained in the research, it was seen that the data obtained from the academic achievement test applied at the beginning and end of the study revealed a statistically significant difference in favor of the post-test. As a result of the diaries kept by the students because of the games played, the themes of "fun", "instructiveness", "emotionality" and "team awareness" emerged. Again, in the light of the data obtained vi from the diaries kept by the researcher during the process, it was concluded that the students "learned by having fun". Based on the findings obtained from the semi-structured interview form applied in the last phase of the research, it was concluded that the students learned the geography concepts that were tried to be taught through the game. The game teaching method can be used in many lessons and grade levels. It can be an effective method, especially in teaching many abstract concepts by making them concrete. In this sense, the amount of game teaching practices in schools can be increased.
