Özet

Stroke is among the leading causes of subsequent physical disabilities worldwide. Stroke patients may experience shoulder pain and motor dysfunction on the hemiplegic side. Sensory impairment and neglect following stroke may alter the patient's sense of proprioception and pain perception, leading to shoulder injury. Additionally, postural effects may be seen due to shoulder pain and spasticity, and as a result, asymmetry may develop in the body, impairing the patient's walking and balance functions, When we look at the literature, it is seen that in many studies, kinesio taping can be used as a supportive treatment in the recovery process of stroke patients in addition to traditional physical therapy methods. The aim of this study was to examine the possible changes in balance, shoulder proprioception, shoulder pain and shoulder functionality by stimulating the deltoid muscle and inhibiting the supraspinatus muscle with kinesio taping on the hemiplegic shoulder muscles in addition to their current treatments in stroke patients. A total of 49 patients were evaluated in the study. 17 of these patients were excluded because they were not suitable for the study. A total of 32 patients were evaluated in two different groups of 16. One of the study groups received kinesio taping in addition to conventional treatment, while the other group received sham taping in addition to conventional treatment. This study was conducted as a prospective, double-blind study. Demographic information was obtained in the evaluation, and Visual Analog Scale (VAS) for pain, Functional Ambulation Classification (FAS) for ambulation, Berg Balance Scale (BBS) for balance, Modified Ashworth Scale (MAS) for spasticity, Joint Position Sense Test for shoulder proprioception, Universal Goniometer for measurement of normal joint range of motion (ROM), Shoulder Pain and Disability Index (SPADI) for shoulder functionality, and Barthel Activities of Daily Living Index (ADLI) for activities of daily living (ADL). The changes in the measurement data between the two groups over time and the comparisons of the data within the groups were examined. In addition, the changes in the measurement data over time were compared between the groups. When the changes in the passive flexion, passive abduction, passive internal rotation, SPADI Disability, SPADI Total and BDI measurement data over time were compared between the groups, the data were found to be statistically significant (p<0.05). According to the results of our study, kinesiology taping can be applied in addition to current rehabilitation treatments in order to reduce shoulder pain, increase shoulder ROM, shoulder functionality and balance in hemiplegic patients.
