Abstract

İmparator Hadrianus’un, Ephesos’un meclisi ve magistratlarına yolladığı, Ephesos bouleuterion’unun duvarına yazılmış, neredeyse birbirinin aynı iki mektubu; Roma vatandaşı olmayan ama muhtemelen Ephesoslu azatlı köleler olan Lucius Erastos ve Philokyrios’un bouleutes olmaları için isteğini gösterir. Hadrian's letters to Ephesus praising Lucius Erastos and Philokyrios the ship's captains who had transportted him across the Aegean in AD 124, as recruits to the council, implies that members were at least nominally elected. Letters of Hadrian supported applications for membership in the boule of Lucius Erastos and Philokyrios. The letters are our souce of information for method of election to the Ephesian Senate in this period.
