Examınıng the Role of Personalıty on Art Lıteracy and Attıtudes Towards Art

Abstract

Personality is a structure formed by individuals' psychological, mental and physical characteristics, and this structure affects the individual's life in different ways and at different times.In fact, personality can affect the individual's lifestyle, approach to events and perspective, desires, preferences, attitudes and behaviors, discourses, in short, many elements in their life. One of the points personality affects is art as it can give a different meaning to the individual's interest, attitude and perspective towards art. Not every individual is interested in art, and individuals' personality traits can impact those who are. The aim of this study is to determine the role of personality on art literacy and attitude towards art. The population of the study was determined as students at the Fine Arts Faculties of universities. The sample of the study consists of students at the Fine Arts Faculties of 5 different universities (n=392). Quantitative research method was used in the study, and data were collected via online survey. As a result of the analysis of the obtained data, it was determined that personality positively affects art literacy and attitude towards art. This result can be interpreted as personality traits increase art literacy and attitude towards art. The findings were discussed and suggestions were made for those who will conduct research on this subject.
